Today, I’m a therapist. I used to be a public policy professional and an elite athlete.
Through one-on-one individual therapy and small group therapy, I help my clients begin a journey of upward movement through performance counseling. Whether you are an athlete, a student striving for academic achievement, or an individual seeking career growth, performance counseling can help you reach the next level. I believe this starts with some personal disclosure as you deserve to know my own stories of upward movement. I graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Purdue University, where I was a three-time Olympic Trials qualifier, two-time Honorable Mention All-America, and proud Team Captain as a member of the Purdue Women’s Swim Team. After graduating from Purdue, I took the lessons I’d learned as a student-athlete into the “real world,” where I lived a life full of juggled priorities for many years. I was a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Public Policy Professional by day, and by night, a master’s student, and by weekend, a clinician completing my practicum work. After graduating with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health from the University of North Texas and completing my LPC training, I continued to juggle my public policy world with my clinical world for several years. It’s been my life’s dream to move away from a juggled professional focus and start a therapy practice, one that I am proud to realize as a co-founder of Mind Moving Therapy.
In addition to Performance Counseling, I am a Certified Autism Specialist and love working with neurodivergent thinkers.
I believe in Temple Grandin’s declaration, “I am different, not less.” If you are looking for growth or emotional healing and are living a neurodivergent experience, or share attributes with Autism or ADHD, I would love to help! My goal is for you to feel heard, respected, and to help you find growth in your relationships and personal wellness. I have worked with individuals with autism since before I was a licensed clinician. My passion for working with this population extends into years of clinical practice in various settings, including inpatient hospital, intensive outpatient, women's shelter, community clinic, and for the last six years, in private practice.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time outside hiking, walking, swimming, performing yoga, and reading. You could also find me flipping through comic books, watching anime shows, or relaxing on my back porch.
I offer telehealth, walk and talk and outdoor seated therapy in nature, and in-office therapy in Dallas. I also offer telehealth in Minnesota.

A message from Laura to Individuals Seeking Therapy:
Whether it's anxiety, depression, or life changes, we as humans tend to think we're “okay” as long as we get through the day. Yet burying these difficulties doesn't heal them and triggering factors will remain. You're not alone in feeling this way! It takes courage to seek help and I want to applaud you for taking this first step. Now let’s work together on truly finding your healing! I am passionate about helping others and will personalize a counseling plan for you that matches your goals for therapy. I think of therapy as a journey towards one’s wellness. I will be a fellow traveler throughout your personal journey.
I often utilize two modalities: Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Throughout my years in the mental health field, I have found these strategies to be significant in providing the environment and tools needed for my clients’ self-exploration and self-growth process. I also believe in providing unconditional positive regard to my clients. This is the ability to be nonjudgmental, to empathize and be caring, and create a safe place conducive to your healing process. A strong client-counselor relationship is also important in the therapeutic process, and it will take the client’s active involvement in order to achieve one's goals.
It is important to me for you to know how much I truly care about each and every one of my clients. It is okay to be scared or unsure of how this process will go. Just know I will continue to use my expertise, unconditional positive regard, and more than likely some humor, as your guide on this self-healing journey. I look forward to beginning this journey with you soon.

With a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, I am deeply committed to supporting individuals on their journey towards healing and growth.
I love working with neurodivergent thinkers, both teens and adults. I began working with this population in the Special Education department in the high school setting.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving as a therapist and Clinical Director for an inpatient/outpatient treatment program, a part of the Special Education department and as a Crisis Counselor in the high school setting, and as an individual and family therapist in private practice. My passion lies in working with adolescents and adults facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, parenting difficulties, and relationship issues.
In therapy, I believe in the power of collaboration and empowerment. I offer a warm and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. My approach integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR) to help individuals heal past traumas and overcome life's obstacles.

When I first began helping individuals with their goals and mental health, I began in the collegiate athletics setting. While working with collegiate athletes, I supported championship-bowl winning football athletes.
Today, I continue to love working with young college-aged adults, as well as teens and adults of all ages. It was important to me to fully pursue my educational training as I followed my dream to become a therapist. I graduated with a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Auburn University, and then I graduated with a PhD in Educational Leadership and Research from Louisiana State University. While completing my masters and doctoral degrees, I worked in various roles, both clinical and nonclinical, within the higher education community. I consider my most fulfilling roles during this time to include working as a therapist in Athletic Counseling services and working with children in Chile on topics such as stress management and self-esteem building. I also received the 2019 Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) Rising Star award while working on my doctorate.
Many of my clients have never seen a therapist before. It’s my goal to offer support to populations who may feel nervous to receive mental health treatment, because we all deserve to feel well, both physically and mentally.
Some of my most common issues in the therapy room include trauma recovery, anxiety prevention and maintenance, depression reduction, grief and loss, career decisions, ADHD and related neurodivergent traits, and men’s issues. Keeping in line with current evidence-based best practices in counseling, I draw from a cognitive behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy treatment modality to help my clients develop effective coping skills and sustain balance and focus in their personal, professional, and family life. I believe the presence of vulnerability creates the best therapeutic relationship!
Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time outside, walking, playing golf, weightlifting, and reading. You could also find me at most sporting events, in a movie theater, or enjoying live music.
I offer telehealth, walk and talk and outdoor seated therapy in nature, and in-office therapy in Dallas.
